Main Door in the South-West: The One Entrance Remedies Cannot Lift to Good

A south-west main door scores 25 — the lowest cell in our entrance table, and the only one remedies cannot lift into Good. Here is the arithmetic.

Author - Vaastu AI Editorial

A main door in the south-west scores 25 in our grounding table — the lowest cell in the entrance row, fifteen points below a south door (40) and twenty below a south-east one (45). All three read Avoid. But the band is not where they separate. Apply the model's recovery arithmetic and a south door reaches exactly 70.0, the bottom of Good; a south-east door 72.5, also Good; a south-west door tops out at 62.5 and stays Acceptable. Of the eight positions a front door can take, the south-west is the only one that cannot be remedied into Good. That is what "south or south-west, same dosha, same remedies" hides.

The reassuring half: your facing direction sets exactly one cell of the assessment, and the same south-west corner that ruins an entrance is the Ideal spot for a master bedroom.

The entrance row, in full

These are the numbers our free check reads for a main door, with the verdict word each one produces:

Main door inScoreVerdict
North-East100Ideal
North95Ideal
East90Ideal
North-West75Good
West70Good
South-East45Avoid
South40Avoid

South-West25Avoid

Two structural things fall out of it.

The row has no Acceptable cell at all. It steps from West at 70 — the exact floor of Good — straight down to South-East at 45, which is Avoid. There is no middle for a front door.

The step from west to south-west is a 45-point drop across one shared boundary, two bands in a single zone, tying with East-to-South-East as the largest adjacent-zone gap in the row. A few feet of wall, not a gradual slide.

The table nobody else prints: where each door ends up after remedies

Our model gives each room type a recovery fraction — how much of a bad placement's deficit comes back through changes that do not move plumbing, a flue or a wall. An entrance recovers 0.5, because a front door is anchored to the building's shell; most other rooms recover 0.85. Recovery applies only below 70. Run it on the whole row:

North-West75Good—Good
West70Good—Good
South-East45Avoid72.5Good

That bottom row is the answer. Every other compass position for a front door either starts in Good or better, or gets there. The south-west starts fifteen points behind the south door and finishes seven and a half behind it — on the wrong side of a band boundary the south door lands exactly on. The model is not coy about why: half of a 75-point deficit is 37.5 points, and that is not enough.

One related detail, if you are budgeting effort: the check flags a fault as fixable at home only when its recovery fraction is 0.8 or better, and an entrance is 0.5. So a south-west door is reported as an issue and as not fixable at home — a statement about the room's anchoring, not about whether remedies are worth doing.

What it actually costs on a plan

Numbers in isolation invite panic, so here is the same door inside a whole flat. Take a 2BHK with the kitchen in the south-east, the master bedroom in the south-west, the second bedroom and the toilet in the north-west, the living room in the north-east and the pooja space in the east — and move nothing but the front door:

South-East8490

Seventeen points between the best door and the worst, on an identical home; four points between a south door and a south-west one. The entrance carries the heaviest weight in the table — 0.18, ahead of the kitchen at 0.16 — and on a seven-room flat that is a little over a fifth of the verdict. So it is genuinely the most expensive single placement you can get wrong, and on this plan it is also the only thing standing between 79 and the high nineties.

The other half of a south-west facing house

"South-west facing house" and "main door in the south-west" are not the same claim. Your facing direction sets one row of the assessment — the entrance. The other thirteen room types are graded on the zone they occupy and do not change because the building faces a different way. The correct reading of a south-west facing home is not this house is wrong; it is one cell is expensive and the rest is still open.

The corner itself is the proof. Across all fourteen room types the south-west is the second most polarised zone in the table — a 75-point spread top to bottom, behind only the north-east:

  • Master bedroom: 100 — Ideal, the best cell in that row
  • Staircase: 95 — Ideal
  • Store: 85 — Good
  • Second bedroom: 75 — Good
  • Study 65, utility 60, garage 60, dining 55, toilet 50 — all Acceptable
  • Kitchen 45, living room 45, balcony 40 — Avoid
  • Pooja space 25, main entrance 25 — Avoid

The same corner that is the worst place in the home for your front door is the best place in it for your master bedroom. If you are in a south-west facing flat and looking for points, that is where they are: the top cell of a 0.13-weight row, banked without touching anything structural. Only four of the fourteen room types have the south-west as their worst compass cell at all — entrance, pooja space, living room and balcony.

Where on the wall, and what we do not model

The 45-point cliff between west and south-west means the position of the opening decides the number. A door near the west end of that wall lands in the west zone at 70; a few feet along it lands in the south-west at 25. Our check grades the eight compass zones, each a 45-degree sector off true north — it does not model the classical pada divisions of the wall, and it does not know which way the door swings, what it opens onto, its material or its colour.

Which makes north the input everything rests on. A bearing 10 to 20 degrees out moves a boundary room across a zone line, and on this boundary that is a 45-point swing. If you are unsure of the plan's orientation, take the reading properly first with the free online Vastu compass — three readings a step apart, away from steel and wiring. Everything after that is arithmetic; only that is a measurement.

Two further limits. The table grades placement and nothing else — not room size, ceiling height, plot slope or road level. And it has no vertical axis: what sits above or below a room is invisible to it.

What to do with this

If your door is in the south-west: it is the most expensive cell in the table, half of it is recoverable, and the recoverable half lands in Acceptable rather than Good. A real cost, and a bounded one. Whether it is a reason to walk away depends on what the other rooms are doing — which is the thing a general article cannot tell you.

If you are weighing a south door against a south-west one, our post on a south-facing main door works through that cell on its own terms.

For the number on your own plan, upload it to the free Vastu check: the rooms are detected, you confirm which way north is and correct any labels that came out wrong, and it returns the zone every room falls in along with a score.
