Does Your Country Change Your Vastu Score? What Our Check Adjusts For, and What It Does Not

Our check reads 126 fixed numbers — room type against zone — with no latitude, climate or sun-path term in it. Same flat, same score in Chennai or London.

Author - Vaastu AI Editorial

Short answer: no. Our check reads two things about each room — what it is, and which of nine compass zones it sits in — and looks that pair up in a fixed table of 126 numbers. There is no latitude, longitude, country, climate or sun-path term anywhere in it, and the function that scores a plan takes exactly one argument: the rooms you confirmed. The same flat gets the same score whether it stands in Chennai or in London.

That is a limitation stated plainly, not a feature. The one genuinely location-specific number anywhere in the product is the magnetic declination you type in yourself on the compass page. We do not look it up from where you are, and nothing downstream of it varies by country.

What the check actually reads

After you upload a plan, rooms are detected and you confirm north and the room labels. From there the grading is arithmetic: 14 room types × 9 zones = 126 cells, each a fixed integer, and four verdict bands — 90 and above ideal, 70–89 good, 50–69 acceptable, below 50 avoid. The overall number is a weighted average of those cells, so two plans with the same rooms in the same zones cannot come out differently. The free check shows you the zones and the score; the paid report adds the room-by-room reading and the remedies.

Nothing in that chain can take a country as input, because nothing in that chain has a parameter for one.

The claim worth testing

Some AI Vastu tools now advertise scores "calibrated" per country — adjusted for sun path, magnetic declination and climate across dozens of markets. And one strand of modern Vastu commentary does argue the rules should invert below the equator, on the reasoning that the sun crosses the northern sky there instead of the southern one. Neither classical Vastu texts nor any published rubric we can find states such an inversion, but the claim is out there, so it is worth pricing.

A hemisphere inversion of the sun path is a mirror about the east–west axis: north swaps with south, north-east with south-east, north-west with south-west, and east, west and the centre stay put. Applied to each room type's best zone in our table, here is what it would cost.

The mirror moves a room by 36 points on average, and for four of the fourteen types it lands in avoid. The dining room is the only type it does not touch at all, because its best zone is on the axis the mirror runs along.

So the two positions are not a rounding difference. They are 36 points apart on a 100-point scale, and we do not do the flip. Our answer for a Sydney flat is the same answer we give for a Pune flat, and you should know that before you read the number.

One real 2BHK, scored both ways

Take a well-placed Indian two-bedroom: main door East (90, ideal), kitchen South-East (100, ideal), master bedroom South-West (100, ideal), living room North-East (95, ideal), second bedroom North-West (84, good), toilet West (85, good), pooja North (85, good).

  • As we grade it: 92, with zero faults and nothing left to remedy.
  • The same plan with every zone mirrored: 61, with two faults — kitchen North-East at 15 and pooja South at 30 — and only one of the two is fixable without touching plumbing. The non-structural ceiling drops to 78.

Thirty-one points of the same flat's score rides on a question nobody in this field has settled. That is the honest size of the uncertainty for a home below the equator. For a home anywhere in the northern hemisphere — which is all of India, and the UK, the US, the Gulf, Canada and most of Europe — the question does not arise, and the flip school and we agree.

What does change abroad: the street, not the sun

The real difference in an overseas flat is not the physics, it is the housing stock. Western developers set a building's orientation from the road, the plot and the daylight code, so the front door lands where the street puts it. Our table prices that directly. Holding the 2BHK above fixed and moving only the main door through each of the eight compass zones:

  1. North-East — plan scores 94. Door cell 100, ideal
  2. North — 93. Door cell 95, ideal
  3. East — 92. Door cell 90, ideal
  4. North-West — 89. Door cell 75, good
  5. West — 88. Door cell 70, good
  6. South-East — 82. Door cell 45, avoid
  7. South — 81. Door cell 40, avoid
  8. South-West — 78. Door cell 25, avoid

Worst case, the facing the road chose for you costs 16 points — and with remedies that are not structural, a south-west door on this plan recovers to 86 rather than 94. It is the single heaviest room in the check and still not the whole verdict, because the other six rooms are graded on the zone they occupy regardless of which way the building faces.

The one location-specific number we do use

There are two norths. True north is what a plan is drawn against; magnetic north is where the needle points; the gap between them is your magnetic declination, and it varies from place to place and drifts over the years. Our vastu compass has a field for it: enter the declination for your location in degrees, east positive, and the corrected bearing is your magnetic reading plus that number. Leave it at zero and you are working in magnetic north.

That is the whole of the location dependence, and it is yours to supply. If you are not sure which north your plan is drawn to, how to find north on a house plan walks through it, and what each kind of Vastu tool can actually know sets out the wider limits.

So should you trust the number for a home abroad?

Trust it for what it is: a consistent reading of room-type-against-zone, identical everywhere, with the four verdict bands stated. In the northern hemisphere that is the same answer a Vastu practitioner working from a compass would start from. Below the equator, one school would mirror it and we do not — and now you know that is worth about 31 points on a typical plan rather than a nuance.

Run the free check on your plan and you will see the zones and the score the same way everyone else does. Where you are does not move it. What you set as north does.
